Thammasat Launches Bike Sharing Service for Green Campus

Thammasat University embraces the notion of ‘sustainable university’ and cooperates with ‘Anywheel’ for public bike-sharing service through an application.

Thammasat University has worked together with Anywheel Company Limited (Anywheel) from Singapore and launched a public bike-sharing service within the area of Thammasat University, Rangsit Campus, under the campaign “Bike Sharing for Green Campus”. The opening ceremony was held in the hall of SC1 Building, Thammasat University, Rangsit Campus. The purpose is to encourage the Thammasat community to use bicycles as a vehicle and also help reduce carbon emission that pollutes the environment.

Asst.Prof.Dr.Prinya Thaewanarumitkul, Vice-Rector for Administration and Sustainability at Thammasat University, says “Thammasat encourages students to use a bicycle and has been working on this for 7 years. Our goal is to be a bicycle university in the future as we have the highest number of students using bicycles in Thailand.”

“The bicycle is renewable energy that does not release any pollution. The more you ride, the healthier you will be in terms of your health and the environment. By November, there will be an additional 200 electric scooters for students to rent throughout the university supplied by Anywheel.” said Asst.Prof.Dr.Prinya.

Mr.Rui Jie Seet, General Manager of Anywheel Singapore, reveals that Anywheel intends to create an eco-friendly and sustainable transportation system. Therefore, Anywheel has participated in the Bike Sharing for Green Campus campaign with Thammasat University.

In the early stage, there will be 52 rental spots, 30 bikes each – a total of 1,500 bikes throughout Thammasat University, Rangsit Campus. The next stage is to conduct a survey of the service in order to increase the rental spot to meet the user’s demands.

“Anywheel”, a bike-sharing service through an application on smartphones, has been offering the service in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.
